(Varus Culture Pt. 1) Why Can't Life be about Art?

So, this is my first attempt at a newsletter so I thought I’d start with something a little light and digestible. Art is that thing we all had to do growing up as a part of play time, free time, recess, and standard education. I think pretty much everyone looked forward to art class when I was younger. We made pottery, paintings, and even masks and it was fun. Back then it was okay to experiment and make mistakes and generally speaking if you tried even a little bit you got a good grade.

Being an artist just seemed like the dream come true because all I had to do was enjoy crafting time and I was a success. I don’t know about you but for me at some point art became more of a chore than a path for enjoyment. At least when it came to making my own art but, I never lost my love of the craft and how it made me feel. I’ve always appreciated the master pieces artist turn out especially in painting because its almost like a window into the human psyche.

I suppose I wish I could jump into the minds eye of some of the painters I’ve meet and really see reality through their eyes. Especially because many times over its as if the whole world is a painting to them and they are just showing us what it really looks like. As if my perception of reality is wrong inherently and leaves should be purple and the sky should be green lol. Something about art just brings me to a state of awe where I feel lost and found all at the same time. In short, I wish society was built around art from top to bottom, then self-expression could make us all a decent living.
