(Varus Culture Pt. 3) I want to build a Videogame but I can’t Code
Maybe if I knew some HTML
This is always an interesting subject because its one of those that everyone engages with but not everyone has the skills to make. Like when you want to be a chef all you basically need is a cook book but when you want to build a complex videogame with 3D environments and sprites of any style you get stuck. Mainly because the barrier to entry is extremely high and it could literally take you years upon years to build a terrible game on your own. But there is always the option to pay someone to build a game for you. If you can afford it.
I’ve talked to a number of different videogame studios about an action RPG idea I’ve had brewing. One in which you play as two tandem characters kinda like ice climber games that Nintendo use to make. But at the same time being challenged to switch between characters to maintain a competitive advantage when playing throughout the game. Anyway, these development studios charge upwards of 40 thousand dollars just for an incomplete demo of a game to be made for limited players to experience. Mainly to see if it’s a good experience to begin with.
I’ve accepted that these prices are reasonable when triple A titles can cost millions to produce and people still not like them. Making my videogame real is a pipe dream that could come true if I found a way to fund the endeavor but is it really possible at the end of the day… but who knows. But I do think it possible. If you have any ideas from how I can start from the bottom and make it to the top let me know… because if Drake can do it, so can I!
